Introduction
Situated at the end of the Beothuk Trail lies the peaceful, yet energetic community of Brighton. A horseshoe-shaped, well-protected harbour attracted early settlers to this secluded island locale. The beautiful coastline provides an excellent opportunity for one to see icebergs, whales, rough seas, coves, and birds. Visit the many caves, such as the Polar Bear Cave, which is shaped like a bear. This cave, once used for casting caplin, has a beautiful sandy beach. Next attraction is the Old Man by the Sea, which is a very unique rock formation located just outside of Brighton that overlooks the bay. Along the Cobble’s Trail there are several rest areas and picnic spots, as well as look out points that capture some of nature’s most beautiful scenes.

History:
The horseshoe shaped harbour attracted settlers to the secluded island. It is a small fishing community located on the shore of Green Bay. The Palaeo-Eskimo and the Dorset Eskimo were the first settlers about 2000 years ago. Brighton was settled by the English in the early 1800’s. Originally known as Dark Tickle, Brighton is actually located on two islands including Cobbler’s Island and Brighten Island which is connected by causeway. The community was exclusively a fishing settlement until the 1950’s when logging became the major employer.
