Introduction
The Town of South Brook is centrally located within Green Bay. It provides a gateway to the Beothuk Trail, and is only a short drive to the area's main commercial centre of Springdale. This community is located on a beautiful salmon river which leaves South Pond and flows into Hall's Bay at the west end of town. This is the river from which the Town got its name. During the early years, the three local rivers: South Brook, West Brook, and Indian River, provided easy access to large stands of timber. Trees were cut and floated down the rivers to sawmills located at South Brook and Springdale.
These rivers were also used as a source of income by salmon fishermen, who sold to buyers from Grand Falls. On the east side a large hill dominates the landscape. This 600 ft. incline is known as Rowsell's Hill, and was named after one of the early settlers.
At the same time this Trans Canada Highway community maintains many of the conveniences of a modern centre. The town boasts two convenience stores, a commercial greenhouse, service station, a restaurant, Kona Beach and South Brook Park. Also, a new water bottling facility has recently opened, which bottles local spring water and sells to markets worldwide.
Kona Beach Park is a popular tourist attraction. This beautiful family campground is situated on lake/salmon River with birch trees, beautiful beach and much more.
